2017 so far…

 

  • Facilitated 10 social group sessions in South Devon
  • Hosted 6 family-friendly craft days in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated 18 youth group sessions in South Devon
  • Facilitated 6 sexual health drop-in sessions in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated 8 action group meetings in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated 2 disco fundraisers in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated a Jumble Sale to raise funds for Proud2Be and Totnes Homeless Shelter
  • Hosted a Rainbow Flag Raising Ceremony to launch the fifth Totnes Pride. The ceremony included a performance from Newton Community Ensemble and was followed by the Totnes LGBTQIA+ History Walk
  • Hosted the fifth Totnes Pride with the largest street procession, day event and after party yet.
  • Received support in principle from the County Council’s Highways and Traffic Orders Committee for our proposal to install Europe’s first permanent rainbow crossing in Totnes
  • Delivered 1 mentoring session with 1 young person in South Devon
  • Developed and delivered Anti-HBT Bullying teacher training sessions to 7 school’s in Devon, as part of the National Anti-HBT Bullying Alliance
  • Delivered LGBT+ Awareness workshops for 3 PSHE days at schools in South Devon
  • Delivered 1 Q&A Session for students at a school in East Devon
  • Delivered 1 LGBT+ Hate Crime workshop to young people at a youth group in rural Devon
  • Delivered 2 LGBT+ Awareness workshops to the charity sector
  • Delivered 2 Totnes Pride Volunteer Training Sessions in Totnes, South Devon
  • Delivered 1 Gender Identity Workshop to youth workers at Space*
  • Co-founder Jae was one of the keynote speakers at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School Wellbeing Event
  • Celebrated and promoted our work at 4 local Pride, LGBT+ &/or Wellbeing events
  • Recorded a bitesize video for LGBT Consortium on ‘involving the wider community’
  • Shortlisted for the LGBT Community Organisation award at The National Diversity Awards 2017
  • 2 youth group members attended the “Youth Work Works” Conference (accompanied by a youth worker) and helped to facilitate a “Hate Crime- What Is It?” workshop to youth workers
  • 6 youth group members took part in a “mystery shopping” activity and met with counsellors from a youth charity and gave feedback on the welcome, approach and advice given 
  • 3 youth group members helped to run a Proud2Be stall at an LGBT+ Play Day in Torbay, Devon
  • Proud2Be youth group members redefined the Terms We Use
  • 11 youth group members helped to run a Proud2Be stall at Exeter Pride
  • 4 youth group members helped to run a Proud2Be stall at Plymouth Pride
  • Received funding from People’s Health Trust enabling Proud2Be to continue running all of it’s current community services in South Devon for the next two years
  • Extended Proud2Be’s craft days from 5 sessions a year to one session a month
  • Announced as one of the partners of the Devon Engagement Service led by Living Options Devon
  • Received funding from Awards4All and Small Grant Fund (SGF) enabling Proud2Be to pilot a fortnightly sexual health drop-in & a counselling & mentoring service for LGBTQIA+ young people
  • Proud2Be was awarded £400 from the ‘Boo Boost 2017’ Fund.

 

2016

 

  • Facilitated 12 adult social group sessions in South Devon, with an average of 33 people attending each month
  • Facilitated 22 youth group sessions in South Devon
  • Facilitated 6 C-Card drop in sessions in Totnes, South Devon
  • Hosted 2 fundraising discos in Totnes, South Devon
  • Hosted 6 family-friendly Craft days in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated 11 Action Group meetings in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated 2 Totnes Pride Volunteer Training Sessions in Totnes, South Devon
  • Facilitated the first Proud2Be Volunteer Residential at Sandwell Barns at Eden Rise which included the delivery of Safeguarding Children and Young People Level 1 Training & Equality and Diversity Training to regular Proud2Be volunteers
  • Hosted a Rainbow Flag Raising Ceremony to launch the fourth ever Totnes Pride. The ceremony was followed by Totnes’ first LGBTQIA+ History Walk
  • Hosted the fourth ever Totnes Pride with our largest procession, day event and after party yet.
  • Delivered LGBTQIA+ Awareness workshops for 5 PSHE days at schools and colleges in South Devon
  • Delivered 3 LGBTQ+ Hate Crime workshops delivered for the Equality and Human Rights Commission

  • Delivered 1 ‘Successful Enterprise’ Talk to the charity sector
  • Celebrated and promoted our work at 5 local Pride and Wellbeing events
  • Nominated for three awards: the LGBT Community Organisation award at The National Diversity Awards 2016, the Diversity Marketing Campaign of the Year Award at the Excellence in Diversity Awards 2016 & The Princes Trust Community Impact Award 2016
  • Facilitated a jumble sale to raise funds for Embracing Refugees and Beyond Border Totnes & District
  • In collaboration with Totnes Library, launched a new LGBTQ+ section of books, the largest collection of LGBTQIA+ books in the county
  • Asked our members which words spring to mind when they think about Proud2Be. Here is what they said
  • Announced as one of 12 organisations in the National Anti-HBT Bullying Alliance. The alliance will deliver an innovative school’s project over the next 2 and a half years and will be led by LGBT Consortium and funded by the Government Equalities Office.
  • To mark Trans Awareness Week 2016, some of our members & volunteers decided to send out some messages of support to trans people all over the world. You can see those messages HERE.

 

2015

 

  • Facilitated 12 social groups in South Devon, with an average of 30 people attending each month
  • Hosted the third ever Totnes Pride, with the largest Totnes Pride procession to date and held a rainbow flag raising ceremony to launch the event, a first for Totnes
  • Facilitated 6 Art and Craft Days in Totnes, South Devon attended by 52 people
  • Hosted 2 fundraising discos in Totnes, South Devon
  • Celebrated and promoted our work at 2 local Pride events
  • Facilitated LGBT+ Awareness workshops for 3 PSHE days at schools and colleges in South Devon
  • Facilitated 2 Equality & Diversity sessions to the charity sector
  • Launched and facilitated 6 youth groups, with 15 young people aged 13-18 supported from Totnes and surrounding areas.
  • Made The Gay UK’s New Year’s Honours List for Community Project
  • Nominated for three awards: The Princes Trust Celebrate Success Award, the LGBT Community Organisation award at The National Diversity Awards 2015 and the Diversity Marketing Campaign of the Year Award at the Excellence in Diversity Awards 2016
  • Began working in partnership with 34 organisations as part of the LGBT Hate Crime Partnership. Led by LGBT Consortium and funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
  • Named as one of the UK’s 100 Awesome Networks by Inclusive Networks
  • Launched a campaign to install Europe’s first permanent rainbow crossing in Totnes. The campaign received pledges of support, locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Facilitated a two day ‘Working with LGBT+ Young People’ Training in Partnership with Targeted Families
  • Developed and facilitated four LGBT+ Hate Crime workshops delivered for the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
  • Proud2Be founders Jae & Max Price spoke at the first ever TEDXTotnes event. Their talk ‘How Shame Made Us Proud2Be’ was released and chosen by TedX to be promoted to their 3 million YouTube subscribers. You can see it HERE

 

2014

 

  • Facilitated 12 social groups in South Devon, with an average of 26 people attending each month
  • Hosted Totnes Pride 2014 with the first ever Pride procession in Totnes, attended by approximately 1200 people
  • Installed the first temporary rainbow pedestrian crossing in Totnes, during the week of Totnes Pride 2014, to celebrate diversity and raise awareness about the issues still faced by the LGBT+ community. The crossing was funded by a successful crowd funding campaign.
  • Teamed up with local trans organisation Transfigurations to host Trans Day of Remembrance event in South Devon
  • Held 2 LGBT+ Youth Focus Groups in Totnes
  • Facilitated 4 Art and Craft Days in Totnes, South Devon
  • Hosted 2 fundraising discos in Totnes, South Devon
  • Celebrated and promoted our work at 4 local Pride events
  • Facilitated 2 anti-bullying workshops to students in Wolverhampton and Aylesbury as part of Local Heroes
  • Facilitated 2 LGBT+ Awareness workshops for PSHE days at schools and colleges in South Devon
  • Facilitated 2 Equality & Diversity sessions to the charity sector
  • Shortlisted for two awards: The Community Group Award at the Pride of South Devon and the LGBT Community Organisation award at The National Diversity Awards 2014
  • Recorded a heartfelt and honest video to celebrate Proud2Be’s 3rd Birthday
  • Bitpod asked Jae from Proud2Be to record a video about ‘Embracing diversity in the workplace’
  • Named high profile LGBT+ activists Peter Tatchell, Christine Burns MBE, Aderonke Apata and Andrew Solomon as our Patrons
  • Hosted and produced 9 Proud2Be Radio Shows on Soundart 102.5 FM Guests included human rights activist Peter Tatchell
  • Took part in an LGBT film project for LGBT+ young people ‘Made Of Rainbow’s’ with Soundart Radio, Healthwatch Devon and The Intercom Trust
  • Attended The Independent on Sunday’s Rainbow List 2014

 

2013

 

  • Facilitated 12 social groups in South Devon, with an average of 26 people attending each month
  • Nominated for LGBT Community Organisation Award at the National Diversity Awards
  • Sarah Waters, Andrew Solomon, Elly Barnes, Ben Bradshaw MP and Central School of Speech & Drama SU contributed to the Proud2Be campaign
  • Launched the new Proud2Be website
  • With support from Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs, Proud2Be held an official campaign press launch in London. The event was opened by the Mayor of Camden and featured a live acoustic set from London Gay Men’s Chorus and speeches courtesy of Michael Cashman CBE and Elly Barnes.
  • Launched the first ever Totnes Pride. The event attracted 1000 visitors and welcomed Peter Tatchell as guest of honour. Peter also took part in a panel discussion alongside Elly Barnes & Shaun Dellenty
  • Proud2Be founders Jae & Max interviewed Peter Tatchell as part of the Proud2Be radio show
  • Facilitated anti-bullying workshops for Devon and Cornwall Police initiative, Local Heroes in Plymouth, Cornwall and Torbay
  • Hosted a social weekend in South Devon attended by 13 people

 

2012

 

  • Nigel Evans MP,  Peter Tatchell , Michael Cashman MEP, Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, Fox Fisher, Stephen Fry, Christine Burns MBE and Shaun Dellenty all contributed to the Proud2Be campaign
  • Became incorporated as a community interest company
  • Proud2Be founders Jae & Max were interviewed by Gaydar Radio
  • Marched at World Pride 2012
  • Launched first social group in South Devon
  • Launched the Proud2Be radio show on Soundart Radio.
