Counselling & Mentoring

About the service

Thanks to a successful Awards4All funding bid, Proud2Be has launched a brand new mentoring & counselling project. This is a free service for LGBTQIA+ young people (11-19) who might be:

  • experiencing homophobic, biphobic &/or transphobic bullying
  • in the process of coming out to family, friends and peers
  • struggling with their own identity
  • dealing with low self esteem/lack of confidence
  • in need of someone to talk to, who is not a friend or family member

How to make a referral

Please CLICK HERE to download a referral form. Anyone supporting a young person can make a referral into Proud2Be. Before making a referral, talk to the young person about what is on offer and whether they would like some extra support. Young people can also self-refer into our service.

We accept referrals for 1:1 support work for any young person aged 11-19. We generally work with 11- 19’s for mentoring and 13-19’s for counselling but up to 25 if the young person has SEN.

Our mentoring is facilitated by a friendly youth worker who is trained in Level 3 Youth Work Practice. Our counselling sessions are facilitated by volunteer counsellors (both trainees and qualified) who receive regular external supervision (in line with BACP guidelines) & in house training. All counsellors have access to a designated LGBTQIA+ specialist at Proud2Be.

School Counsellor

I recently had my final counselling session with a pupil who you came into school to see. He told me how meeting you had such a positive impact on how he was feeling at that time. I wanted to say a huge thank you for reaching out to him at a time when he needed some answers.
